Water qualityThe purpose of the course is to train the participants on water quality monitoring aspects that are relevant for strategic water resources management. It includes aspects about water quality monitoring parameters and standards, field and laboratory analysis, data analysis and reporting, as well as planning water quality monitoring systems considering the local circumstances. The course is designed to support the Zambezi Valley Development Agency in fulfilling its strategy that includes the development of studies and strategies to promote economic and social development of the Zambezi River Basin in Mozambique.10FEAF, UniZambeze, MocubaSalomonMar
Water & wastewater treatment The purpose of the course is to train participants on the fundamentals of water and waste water treatment engineering. The course focus on quality and quantity aspects of characterization of water and waste water, objectives of water and waste water treatment, characterization and functionality of unit operations for water and waste water treatment, global dimensioning of treatment processes and setting up of a water/wastewater treatment plant (order of treatment processes). The course is designed to support the Zambezi Valley Development Agency in fulfilling its strategy that includes the building of capacity to enable effective and efficient management of processes required to manage a water treatment plants.10FCT, UniZambeze, BeiraSalomonApr
Integrated Water Resources ManagementThe purpose of the course is to train the participants on integrated water resources management (IWRM) concepts and applications. Integrated Water Resources Management is “a process which promotes the coordinated development and management of water, land and related resources, in order to maximize the resultant economic and social welfare in an equitable manner without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems”. The course will focus on the introduction of holistic approach to water management based on the Dublin principles of IWRM. The course is designed to support the Zambezi Valley Development Agency in fulfilling its strategy that includes the development of studies and strategies that promote economic and social development of the Zambezi River Basin in Mozambique.10FEARN, UniZambeze, ChimoioSalomonApr
HydrologyThe purpose of the course is to train the participants on hydrological aspects that are relevant for strategic water resources management. The course focus on practical hydrological aspects such as hydrology balance, estimating flows using statistical and empirical methods, and hydrological simulations. The course is designed to support the Zambezi Valley Development Agency in fulfilling its strategy that includes the development of studies and strategies that promote economic and social development of the Zambezi River Basin in Mozambique.10ISPS, SongoSalomonMay
Participatory management of water resourcesThe purpose of the course is to train participants in a train-the-trainer mode about Participatory approaches in Water Resources Management. The five day course is pitched at Bachelor and Licenciatura level and treats five specific topics, which will be concluded on the final two days with a practical assignment on designing effective Water User Associations. The five key topics are: 1. Water management trends in the water sector; 2. different participatory approaches; 3. Public-private partnerships in water supply; 4. Water User Associations in the irrigation sector; 5. participation in river basin management. All topics will treat global and Mozambique specific approaches/cases that endow participants with both the knowledge and skills to design effective forms of participation in water management and governance.10ISPM, ChimoioWURMay
Operation and maintenance of irrigation systems The purpose of this course is to train the participants on concepts and applications of Operation & Maintenance of irrigation systems. The five-day course is designed for participants to implement and guide operation and maintenance of practices and stakeholders in existing and future irrigation system in the Zambezi Valley. The course includes a thorough review of existing forms of irrigation systems, both formal and informal, large and small scale. The socio-technical aspects of these irrigation systems as well as a production analysis related to irrigated agriculture will be discussed, followed by an analysis of relevant aspects of operation and maintenance of the various types of irrigation systems. All concepts will be applied on cases from Mozambique, including field visits to different types of irrigation in Angónia. 10FAGRENM, UCM, ChimoioWURJune
